19 May Destination Collonges la Rouge

Inspiring places to visit are plentiful  in la Vallée de la Dordogne & surrounding areas,  picturesque vistas in abundance await you in which ever direction you choose to drive. Collonges-la-Rouge is no exception,  it  reminds me of a blazing Ruby of Beauty as  the whole medieval hamlet  is built out of glowing red brick, sourced at the time from the nearby quarry.  Encircled by stunning countryside of varying shades of vivid summer greens, it is an enchanting place with some lovely shops selling only locally produced products, including a really tasty Gin that is distilled locally.  Whilst on your visit you can choose from several restaurants all offering gastronomic delights to tantalise your tastebuds, & where you can also just sit back and relax quietly, whilst feeling the wonderful ambience that oozes from every street corner & hidden alley-way of this quaint fairytale hamlet.  If you enjoy walking, take your hiking boots too, there is also a wonderful walk to be enjoyed, I think it is about 7 kms, taking you around this marvelous picturesque red gem in the middle of the countryside.
