25 May Quercy Lavender Rocamadour
Quercy Lavender is now just coming into it’s beauty of full bloom in the Valley of the Dordogne, it’s perfume is provocatively divine and it’s beauty exquisite. Historically, lavender is well known for its 3 “A’s”. Antiseptic – Antibacterial and Antiviral properties. But there are so many more uses for the oil from this beautiful and incredible plant. The oil is added to soaps, sprays, lotions or candles. Applied directly on to the skin it is a great soother & helps with healing. The scent can help with the mental and physical stresses of today too, with covid 19 and all the problems some people are suffering, this could be useful to know. Just breath in the heavenly scent and relax. In many gardens in the Lot, Quercy Lavender is making a comeback in our stunning countryside, a visual alluring blanket of lavender blue, alive with small wildlife. At “La ferme des Alix ” https://fermedesalix.fr/lavande-quercy/, not far from Chateau de Lacomté, situated in Rocamadour you can visit their essential oils distillery and find out about the whole range of products prepared on the farm, or in collaboration with local artisans of the area. You can also book to join a guided tour, normally during the months of July and August. Afterwards you can enjoy a tasting of their mouthwatering products in their amazing boutique with so many wonderful things produced “Maison”. Essential oils, Lavender Honey, Lavender Liqueur, Lavender flavoured syrups, Soaps, Cosmetics, Candles and so much more. I loved my visit there, the boutique was full of so many wonderful products. Lavenders at La ferme des Alix are normally in full bloom during the 2nd half of June, but much depends on the weather and you can never be sure. They begin to harvest and distil in mid – July. Here at Château de Lacomte, our lavenders and roses outside reception are just about to bloom, the butterflies are already dancing over the unfolding flowers, just waiting for them to open up fully to the soothingly warm sunshine of may. The bees fly over from their bee-hive in the nearby lime tree by the swimming pool, they are so busy pollinating all the stunning Spring blossom, their delicate hum of buzzing can be heard all over the park – everywhere is so pretty. Oh, how wonderful is Country Living, in rural French Countryside ! There is also another wonderful Lavander Boutique in the Lot, run by an English couple, Suzie and Ian, I have yet to visit them. The couple are working hard to keep alive the lavender traditions of the Lot, and look forward to sharing their dream with you, should you decide to visit them during your future stay in this wondrous region of Quercy. They too also have a Boutique called Lavande de Lherm, where their products are exclusively available. https://www.lavenderalot.com/laBouttique.htm Have a wonderful evening !
